This video is about removing and installing a rear wheel. The first step in doing that is to release the brake there's three different kinds of brakes, and so we're going to start by showing you those here's the V brake now. The purpose of releasing the brake is to spread the brake shoes, so the tire will drop between them. This is a caliper break that we find on road bikes.
It'S real easy, you just lift the lever, and this is a cantilever break like what you find on touring bikes, it's released at this point. The next step is to shift the bike into the smallest sprocket. It makes getting the wheel out easier next, we'll work with quick-release. The quick-release has two positions. This is open. This is closed. To take the wheel out will release the quick-release will loosen the nut on the right and sometimes you'll need to move the rear derailleur out of the way before the wheel drops out. But when you do, the wheel comes right out. So now we'll show you how to reinstall the wheel, and it's actually easier than you might think you simply take this top chain and put it on the top of the smallest sprocket, then lift the wheel into the dropouts. The rear derailleur will take care of itself. Now notice how this fastener works when we flip it over it moves about a quarter of an inch, but we have to get it within range by tightening the nut on the other side before it will close tightly enough notice. Here, I'm only using my fingers, which tells me that it's not tight enough, so we'll open it up again and we're going to tighten the nut a little bit more and see how it feels using when it's tight enough. You'Ll have to use your palm to close. It and finally reattach your back brake. You want to be sure your rear wheel is aligned because this affects the brakes. We can check the alignment by watching the movement on these caliper arms you'll notice. The right one has a lot more movement on it than the left one does that tells us that your left brake pads, probably dragging so to fix this we'll release the wheel, recenter refasten the quick release and check the brake alignment again. This time you'll see that the right caliper and the left one will have the same amount of movement to them. When you've got that, there's your adjustment go out and ride. |
